Divided.

This new series of abstract paintings debuted in April 2018 at JRB Art at the Elms in Oklahoma City and reflects my concern about the deep divides in our country. Compelling and timely, these paintings are visual interpretations of our current fractured political climate. More broadly, these paintings serve as a mirror reflecting a society of deep ideological divides characterized by turmoil and incompetence. But they also remind us of our shared aspirations, emphasizing the once collaborative and productive capability of our democracy.

Created in 2017, these paintings showcase my current creative directions. Most are available at Joseph Gierek Fine Art in Tulsa and JRB Art at the Elms in Oklahoma City.

A recent solo exhibition at JRB Art at the Elms , these paintings are an expression of my daily streams of thought. This series reflects a myriad of longings and recollections, but also unexpected joys and challenges. And when grouped together, a view of life unfolds: messy, joyful, bright and boggling.

Every fall, I paint a small number of doves in memory of my father. A lawyer and civil rights activist, Dad worked at the grassroots level to advance peaceful solutions to legal and social injustices of the time.

These paintings focus on the familiar but unsettling turning points in our lives, those moments of choice, chance and possibility. With various remnants and bold acrylic paint, designs are composed of dynamic shapes suggestive of a life in motion.

From my solo exhibition at the State Capitol of Oklahoma , this series explores the journeys we embark on during a lifetime. Here, journeys are not depicted in linear form; rather, the jumbled shapes and symbols convey shifts, obstacles and pauses.
